She said that when she was very young, her father (who was a heck of a character) told her that if she learned to cook, that she woul be expected to cook.  So she never really did.  Ike was the cook in tha family.  He had a famous recipe for vegetable soup.
Ike and mamie were a lot more sophisticated and worldly than their mid-western image would suggest.  They were stationed all over the world during his military career.</description>
